75th Anniversary Book
Description
This 176-page beautiful 8 1/2”x 11” hard cover book contains over 40 color photographs and about 150 black and white photographs. It chronicles the establishment of the Arboretum in 1929 and its development through four directors and a host of other individuals instrumental in the process.
Purpose
The book was initiated to help celebrate the 75th anniversary in 2004 of the founding of the Arboretum. Never before have we had such a wonderful opportunity to record the unique and beautiful aspects of this campus-arboretum and share it with as broad an audience as this book allows us.
Cost
We are offering this hardcover volume for $34.95 + $4.00 shipping and handling. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards the Education Center and Greenhouse building fund.
Author
Ben Yagoda lives in Swarthmore with his family, has taught at the College, has frequented Scott Arboretum events and asks gardening questions from time to time revealing his own gardening interests. He graduated cum laude from Yale with honors in English and pursued his interest in history while acquiring masters degree in American civilization at the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught at the University of Delaware as Professor of English since 1996. He is the author of Will Rogers: A Biography (1993) which was named one of the top 6 practical books of the Year by Washington Monthly and About Town: the New Yorker and the world it made (2000).

State Street Corporation gave a generous grant of $55,000 to underwrite the cost of producing the book and printing 2,000 copies making it possible for the Arboretum to celebrate this significant anniversary in a lasting way beyond 2004 by sharing stories and photographs of the Arboretum’s development.
