Van Trip: North Creek Nurseries and Dansko Green Headquarters

Thursday, August 19 departs 9:30 am to approx. 4:15pm
Departs from Scott Arboretum offices

Join the Scott Associates for a van trip to North Creek Nurseries, Landenberg, PA and Dansko Green Headquarters, West Grove, PA. Founded in 1988 by Dale Hendricks and Steve Castorani, North Creek is a propagation nursery that supplies starter plugs to wholesale and retail nurseries. They have a large selection of perennials, grasses, and ferns with an emphasis on new varieties and Eastern North American natives and their cultivars. North Creek also produces many native plants in larger Landscape Plugs™ that are used in restoration projects and by highway departments, municipalities and conservation societies. While at North Creek we will see the sun and shade plant trials, best management practices for stormwater runoff, habitat gardens, and the North Creek Community Garden. After our tour we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade and have the special opportunity to buy from a selection of 3” pots.

Dansko Green Headquarters in West Grove, PA is a LEED Certified Gold building and corporate headquarters of Dansko shoes. While at Dansko we will see one of the largest living walls in the Philadelphia area spanning two stories high with hydroponically grown plants. There is also a green roof for employees to enjoy. The soil on this green roof is deeper than most allowing for a variety of plants to be used. Our visit to Dansko will include a presentation on their LEED certified building, a tour of the headquarters, and time for shopping.

This is sure to be an educational, visually exciting day with a chance to spend a little money on fun and unique items – don’t delay – August 19 is just around the corner! Bring your own lunch and beverage. Limited to 26.
