The Scott Arboretum displays an impressive collection of witchhazels. Nearly
40 types are located around Sharples Hall and the fraternities. When little else
provides interest in the winter landscape, the fiery colors of witchhazels illuminate this
area and produce a sweet fragrance. Other specimens can be found around campus,
including Hamamelis mollis ‘Early Bright’, a cultivar discovered and named at the
Arboretum. Pictured below is H. xintermedia 'Carmine Red' and Hamamelis xintermedia 'Jelena'.
