THE SCOTT ARBORETUM OF SWARTHMORE COLLEGE

John W. Nason Garden

This garden was a gift from the class of 1948 and is named in honor of John W. Nason, Swarthmore College President from 1940-1953. It is a textural garden with many bold planting choices. Cutback trees such as Paulownia, Catalpa, and Robinia tower over sweeps of ornamental grasses and Amsonia. The garden is stunning every season, even in winter when the staggered pathways, leftover perennial stalks, and deciduous shrub outlines all provide interest.
