Curatorial Intern

The Curatorial internship at the Scott Arboretum offers work experience in a campus arboretum to an individual interested in a career in public horticulture. In addition to on-the-job training, the intern has opportunities to meet other professionals in the area and to attend educational events at other institutions. This is an one-year internship. Work activities may include garden and collections maintenance; plant records work such as label making and mapping; plant propagation; greenhouse maintenance; supervising volunteers; and assisting with educational events.

For the curatorial interns during the 2006-2008 period, they have $5,000 in support to travel due to a generous anonymous donor who made a 3 year commitment to support international travel for the curatorial intern. Click here to learn about past intern's trips.

Qualifications: working knowledge of nomenclature and a strong interest in woody ornamentals. Good communication skills, an attention to detail, and interest in working with volunteers and the public are also desired. Individual must be willing to work some weekends and evenings.

Summer Interns

This position offers a broad range of work experiences in a campus arboretum to an individual interested in a career in ornamental horticulture. Responsibilities include working with staff and volunteers on gardening, plant records activities, programs, and special events. Horticultural education and experience is desirable as well as good communication skills, an interest in working with people and the public, and a keen interest in plants and horticulture. The successful individual must be willing to work some weekends and evenings.
