Gardens of Chicago: World Class Wonders
Join us for a four-day, three-night excursion to see exclusive private gardens and inspiring city sites in and around Chicago August 20 - 23, 2012. Andrew Bunting and Julie Jenney will be your guides to experience “Gardens of Chicago: World Class Wonders” a trip that promises inspiration within gardens on par with some of the great gardens of the world.

Perennial beds of extraordinary color combinations, magnificent meadows, fanciful follies, and exquisite garden rooms make up the private garden portion of this trip. Time will also be spent at the remarkable Chicago Botanic Garden and Millennium Park where innovative public spaces and garden art will be sure to stimulate the senses. Speaking of which – a Scott Arboretum trip would not be complete without sampling some of the best local restaurants and foods along with time for shopping and sightseeing in downtown Chicago.

The trip begins with a boat tour of the city’s architecture, sure to provide a sense of wonderment of how Chicago was created and rises up today as well as an excellent historical overview. We will stay at the Burnham, a Kimpton Hotel, two blocks from Millennium Park with easy access to shopping, sites, and restaurants. We will have dinner together on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Tuesday you will be on your own to seek out the perfect deep dish pizza or relax at the hotel’s Atwood Café, described as an “enticing downtown Chicago American Restaurant.”

Trips are a members-only benefit of the Associates of Scott Arboretum. Click here to become a member. For a sneak peak at this trip don’t miss the Travels at Twelve “Gardens of Chicago: World Class Wonders” on Thursday, March 8 from noon to 1 pm in the Lang Performing Arts Center Cinema.
