How to Get Here

 

SEPTA Regional Rail

Take SEPTA's (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) Media/Elwyn line, Swarthmore station. (You can take the Airport Line into Center City Philadelphia and change to the Media/Elwyn line train if you are arriving from the airport.) Walk up the hill via the tree-lined Magill Walk; turn right in front of Parrish Hall at the top of the hill and proceed past the library to the arboretum headquarters. We recommend consulting Swarthmore's campus map (pdf) before arriving on campus.

SEPTA Bus Route

The SEPTA bus route 109, 69th Street Terminal to Chester, has a bus stop at Chester Rd (Route 320) and College Ave. After departing from the bus, simply walk up the hill (College Ave.) to the Arboretum Offices on your left.

From the North (New Jersey Turnpike or I-95)

Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 3 and follow the signs to the Walt Whitman Bridge. Take I-95 South, pass Philadelphia International Airport and continue to Exit 7, I-476 North/Plymouth Meeting. Take I-476 North to Exit 3, Media/Swarthmore. At bottom of exit ramp, follow the sign for Swarthmore by turning right onto Baltimore Pike. (See below for "…the rest of the way.")

From the South

Follow I-95 North to Exit 7 (in Pennsylvania), I-476 North/Plymouth Meeting. Take I-476 to Exit 3, Media/Swarthmore. At the bottom of the exit ramp, follow the sign for Swarthmore by turning right onto Baltimore Pike. (See below for "…the rest of the way.")

From the East (via the Pennsylvania Turnpike)

From Exit 333, Norristown, follow signs for I-476 South. Stay on I-476 approximately 17 miles to Exit 3, Media/Swarthmore. At the bottom of the exit ramp, follow the signs to Swarthmore by turning left onto Baltimore Pike. (See below for "…the rest of the way.")

From the West (via the Pennsylvania Turnpike)

From Exit 326, Valley Forge, take I-76 East, Schuykill Expressway, about 4 miles to I-476 South. Take I-476 approximately 12 miles to Exit 3, Media/Swarthmore. At the bottom of the exit ramp, follow the signs to Swarthmore by turning left onto Baltimore Pike. (See below for "…the rest of the way.")

From the Airport

Take I-95 South. Continue to Exit 7, I-476 North/Plymouth Meeting. Take I-476 North to Exit 3, Media/Swarthmore. At the bottom of the exit ramp, follow the sign for Swarthmore by turning right onto Baltimore Pike. (See below for "…the rest of the way.")

"…the rest of the way"

Stay in the right lane and in less than 1/4 mile turn right at the light onto Route 320 South/ Chester Road (watch turns on Route 320). Make a right at the second light onto College Avenue. The Arboretum parking lot is the second driveway on the left.

Parking for the Scott Arboretum Office

A small parking lot is available next to the Scott Arboretum offices. If you are unfamiliar with the campus, please review a map of campus to see these areas.

Additional Parking Areas:

1) The Ben West  Parking Lot  is off Route 320/Chester Road, south of the College Avenue intersection and it is a short walk uphill to the Scott Arboretum Office. The visitor section of the Ben West Parking Lot is marked by red lines.

2) Visitor parking is available in the Cunningham Lot at the intersection of College Ave. and Route 320/Chester Road. It is a short walk up the hill of College Ave. to the Scott Arboretum offices.

3) Street parking is available along Cedar Lane, one block north of the Office, and is a one to two block walk to Scott Arboretum Offices.

4) Street parking is also available along College Avenue between the Scott Office and the light on Route 320/Chester Road and is less than one block walk to Scott Arboretum offices. Please note these spaces are usually full by 8:30 am during the work week.

4) DuPont Parking Lot Visitor Section is located off of Whittier Place; consult map. Please allow for a 5-minute walk across campus when parking in this location.

For Visitors attending a Scott Arboretum Event:

Scott Arboretum signs will be posted before the event to direct visitors to the correct parking lot and walking signs to the appropriate building.
