Flow through yoga poses that engage the entire body and calm the mind\, grounded in the soothing and deeply restorative sounds of sound bath crystal bowls\, gongs\, and chimes. Allow the rhythm of movement and breath\, complemented by the therapeutic vibrations of sound\, to help you relax under the magnificent spring blossoms. This program is a partnership with the Park Avenue Community Center\, to promote health and wellness throughout our community. \nWe recommend this event for adults and children ages 8 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult. \nThough this event is free\, please consider making a donation of $10 while registering to support our educational programs.  \nRegister Now \nAbout the Presenters \nMary Thompson\, E-RYT 200\, YACEP\, first discovered yoga to maintain balance and strength throughout her career in federal law enforcement.  As a teacher\, Mary creates a nurturing space for students to experience yoga as a gateway for transformation and growth\, and as a modality of life-long wellness. Mary is a certified Yoga for Healthy Aging teacher\, and the founder of Sanctuary Yoga\, a spiritual wellness ministry at Trinity Church\, Swarthmore.  Mary is also the Director of Adult Programs and Health & Wellness at the Park Avenue Community Center\, where she creates programming and offerings to serve and support the health and wellness needs of the Delaware County community.  When Mary first moved to Swarthmore\, her daily walks through the Arboretum with her family and dogs inspired her to volunteer at the Scott Arboretum\, where she recently served as President of Council to the Scott Associates.  Mary deeply appreciates the Scott Arboretum & Gardens as a place for all generations to share\, learn and experience year-round horticultural beauty.   \n\nAudrey Uchimoto\, AKA Sound Baths by Aud\, is a passionate sound healer based on the Main Line of Philadelphia. Certified in Sound Healing and Crystal Singing Bowls\, Audrey uses the therapeutic application of sound frequencies and vibrations to align individuals’ energetic fields and brain waves into a state of harmony and peace. \nAudrey entered the sound healing community in 2017 while living in Los Angeles. DESCRIPTION:Join Andrew Bunting\, Vice President of Horticulture at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society\, for a hands-on workshop on growing tropical plants in outdoor containers. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just starting\, this session will provide you with all the essential tips and techniques to successfully cultivate vibrant tropical plants in your outdoor spaces. Andrew will review the best tropical plants for container gardening\, their care requirements\, and how to create a thriving environment for them. The lecture will be followed by a demonstration of proper planting techniques and an opportunity to plant a container with tropical plants to take home. Planting can be done during the workshop or materials can be taken home. Prior to arriving at PHS\, Andrew worked at the Chicago Botanic Garden\, Chanticleer Garden\, and Scott Arboretum & Gardens for a tenure of 27 years. He has received the American Public Gardens Association’s Professional Citation\, Chanticleer Scholarship in Professional Development\, and the Certificate of Merit from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. He also serves on the Board of Magnolia Society International. Along with her university partnerships\, Tissarose extends her services to the Philadelphia School District and charter schools in the Philadelphia area. Her collaboration with the school district is personally significant as a native of West Philadelphia and an alumnus of Lamberton High School. Being able to give inner-city students access to different activities is an important part of Tissarose’s mission and values.  \nTissarose is a multi-year participant in the Philadelphia Flower Show\, where she was featured in the floral design exhibit category and has received multiple medals for her design and participation. She was named Best Florist by Metro Philly in 2024. DESCRIPTION:For the past several years\, Scott Arboretum & Gardens’ horticulturists have been exploring low-input gardening techniques and evaluating their long-term success in support of  Swarthmore College’s ambitious goal to be carbon neutral by 2035. Maintaining roses sustainably\, installing water-wise gravel gardens\, employing organic turf care\, and planting lawn alternatives are a few of the many concepts being implemented. Join Adam Glas\, Garden Supervisor\, to learn about practical\, real-world solutions for making a garden of any size more sustainable. SUMMARY:Specialty Pruning Workshop: Hydrangeas & Roses
DESCRIPTION:Learn the essential techniques for pruning roses and hydrangeas in this focused\, hands-on workshop. Designed for home gardeners of any experience level\, this class demystifies when\, why\, and how to prune each plant for healthier growth and better blooms. \nHorticulture Supervisor Adam Glas and Senior Horticulturist Andrew DeGothseir will cover pruning techniques specific to different types of roses and the major hydrangea groups\, explaining the key differences between old-wood and new-wood bloomers. He holds a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture and Environmental Design from Delaware Valley University.  Before joining the horticulture staff\, he worked at Haverford College\, Westtown School\, Henry Schmieder Arboretum\, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia\, and Germantown Friends School where he was instrumental in creating the Betty Cary Arboretum. \nHorticulture Supervisor Adam Glas joined the Scott Arboretum & Gardens staff in 2012. Before that\, he worked as Nursery Manager at Terrain (Styer’s) Nursery in Glen Mills. He was accepted into the Longwood Gardens Professional Gardener (PG) Training Program\, completing that program in 2006. He served as president for the PG Alumni Association and vice president of the board of managers at Chenoa Manor.
