SUMMARY:Lecture: Creating Beauty through Garden Adversity
DESCRIPTION:Co-Sponsored with  \n\n \nEvery gardener operates within constraints; poor soil\, a steep grade\, unfortunate drainage\, and unsightly views are just a few factors that may impede the pursuit of a great garden. In this talk\, author Nicole Juday will share creative solutions employed by the most talented gardeners in our region\, using examples that appear in her book Private Gardens of Philadelphia\, with photos by Rob Cardillo. Learn how some of the best gardens in our region work with their inherent limitations –rather than against them– with outstanding results.  \nJoin us before the event for a tour of the Arboretum’s camellias in honor of our 95th anniversary. A reception with the opportunity to purchase Private Gardens of Philadelphia and book signing will follow the lecture.  \n \n \nProgram Details \n\nAll registrations include access to the recording. \nIn-person registration is limited to 190. She has gone on to publish numerous articles\, winning a silver medal for her writing by the Garden Writers Association. She serves as board chair for the IDEAL Industries Foundation.

He’s been credited as the primary photographer for over twenty-five books including  Private Edens\, Private Gardens of South Florida\, The Art of Gardening at Chanticleer\, The Layered Garden\, Chasing Eden\, and his most recent work Private Gardens of Philadelphia.  Rob’s work is also seen in publications such as Gardens Illustrated\, Garden Gate\, Flower and The New York Times. Along with his Blue Root Media partners\, Rob provides editorial content for an award-winning regional gardening magazine\, GROW\, published quarterly by the venerable Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.  Winner of numerous photography awards\, Rob was inducted into the Garden Writer’s Association Hall of Fame in 2015.  \nRob lives and gardens in Ambler where he grows a little bit of everything in drifts of one.

Join Celeste Sullivan and Rachel Warren at the Scott Arboretum for mornings full of singing\, stories\, crafts and dancing. Each session is seasonally themed around nature and the garden. This program is designed for children ages 2 – 3 years old with their caregivers.  \nRegistration Cost (includes all 8 sessions): \nMembers: Free \nNon-Members: $40  \nDid you know a Family level membership to the Associates of the Scott Arboretum is only $55 and includes benefits for two adults and up to four children? Become a member of the Associates of the Scott Arboretum here.  \n \n \nProgram Details \n\nRegistration is required.
