SUMMARY:Winter Celebration: 200 Years of du Pont Gardening
DESCRIPTION:The Brandywine Valley is home to some of America’s greatest gardens\, created by the celebrated du Pont family. After an introduction to some of the area’s horticultural treasures\, the rich history of Longwood Gardens will be presented\, from its beginning as a simple farm to today’s showplace of plants\, fountains\, and crystal palaces\, including the new West Conservatory and Cascade Garden. Longwood’s recent acquisition of the family’s Granogue estate in nearby Delaware will also be briefly discussed. \nEvent schedule:  \n3:00 pm – Lecture  \n4:00 pm – Reception with hors d’oeuvres and cash bar \nAfter the lecture\, mix and mingle with the speaker during the reception.  \nFor an easy dinner\, make a reservation at the Broad Table Tavern . Members of the Scott Associates receive a 15% discount at the Broad Table Tavern (discount not valid on alcoholic beverages). \n\n\nRegister Now\n\nProgram Details \n\nAdvance registration is required.\nLimited to 150 people.\nEmail us  if you have accessibility needs for this program.\nFor more information\, review our program and event policies or call the Scott office at 610-328-8025.\n\nAbout the Presenter \nColvin Randall received a master’s degree in ornamental horticulture from The Longwood Program in conjunction with the University of Delaware. He then joined Longwood in 1977 as Publicity Coordinator and in 1980 began designing the Gardens’ musical fountain displays and fireworks. Colvin was named Historian and Information Manager in 2004 and P.S. du Pont Fellow in 2008. He has authored seven books\, two DVDs\, and several exhibits on Longwood. After 50 years of studying the Gardens’ history as a student and an employee\, Colvin is still uncovering fascinating stories to tell.
