Traveling by vans, our first stop will be a guided tour through the fascinating studios of woodworker George Nakashima in New Hope. Nestled into a beautiful wooded setting, we will see showrooms, assembly rooms, and an amazing lumber storage space. Lunch will be enjoyed at the lovely, terraced, country garden at Jericho Mountain Orchards just a few miles away. In addition to the 19th century apple orchard, this private property has old garden roses and climbers that ramble over 18th century walls and barns which lead to perennial borders and formally parterred beds.
After lunch we will head to Paxon Hill Farm for a tour of their extensive public and private gardens that include, to quote their website, “… shade gardens, formal gardens, ponds, bell garden, wing gardens, a place we call ‘never never land’ and there are always more unique gardens projects underway. Many pleasant surprises await the lucky visitor around each bend. Don’t be surprised if our two pet turkeys follow along with you. Bring your curiosity and sense of adventure… .” You’ll also be able to shop briefly at Paxon Hill Farm’s nursery, where purchases must be kept small to fit in the vans.
Our last stop of the day will be the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown. Participants will get an hour and a half to see this small but world-class museum on their own. The Michener’s permanent collection features examples of the finest art from the Bucks County region. Registration includes entrance and tour fees for the Nakashima studio, Paxon Hill Farm, and the Michener Museum.
