SUMMARY:Travels @ 12: Moroccan Marvels
DESCRIPTION:Morocco is a country of contrasts: The buzz of the medina and exotic souks in Marrakesh\, hidden gardens\, long views to the mountains and warm\, hospitable people happy to share their \nhistory over a glass of mint tea. Enjoy “traveling” to this wonderful country with Claire Sawyers\, Director of the Scott Arboretum\, as she recounts the October 2023 horticultural tour she led for members of the Associates of the Scott Arboretum. They experienced a breadth of gardens\, including intimate courtyard gardens with vibrant plants\, colorful tiles\, and splashing water; country gardens known as jnane (gardens of paradise) with an emphasis on orchards and decorative herb gardens; and a number of newly created gardens. \nTravels @ 12 is an online series for plant enthusiasts to vicariously experience gardens and natural spaces throughout the world.  \nRegistration is free\, but required to receive the Zoom webinar and recording links. \nRegistration Closed \nProgram Details \n\nThe webinar link will be included in the confirmation email received after registering online.\nThis webinar will be recorded and available for 2 weeks after the presentation.\nRecording link will be available 2 days after the webinar.\nParticipants must download Zoom.\nEmail us if you have accessibility needs for this program.\nFor more information\, review our program and event policies or call the Scott Arboretum office at 610-328-8025. \n\nAbout the Presenter \nClaire Sawyers has been the Director of the Scott Arboretum since 1990. Prior to that she worked at Mt. Cuba Center for the Study of Piedmont Flora in Hockessin\, Delaware for seven years. She holds Masters degrees in ornamental horticulture from Purdue University and the University of Delaware where she was a Longwood Graduate Fellow. She has gardened in Japan\, France\, and Belgium in addition to the U.S. She served as a commissioner for the accreditation program of the American Association of Museums from 2004 to 2010. Her book\, The Authentic Garden: Five Principles for Cultivating a Sense of Place\, was published in 2007 by Timber Press. Claire was awarded the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award from the American Horticultural Society in 2023\, which is the highest award given.
