SUMMARY:Lecture: Creating Beauty through Garden Adversity
DESCRIPTION:Co-Sponsored with  \n\n \nEvery gardener operates within constraints; poor soil\, a steep grade\, unfortunate drainage\, and unsightly views are just a few factors that may impede the pursuit of a great garden. In this talk\, author Nicole Juday will share creative solutions employed by the most talented gardeners in our region\, using examples that appear in her book Private Gardens of Philadelphia\, with photos by Rob Cardillo. Learn how some of the best gardens in our region work with their inherent limitations –rather than against them– with outstanding results.  \nJoin us before the event for a tour of the Arboretum’s camellias in honor of our 95th anniversary. A reception with the opportunity to purchase Private Gardens of Philadelphia and book signing will follow the lecture.  \n \n \nProgram Details \n\nAll registrations include access to the recording. \nIn-person registration is limited to 190. Due to limited seating\, virtual registrants cannot attend in person. \nVirtual registrants will be able to view the recording shortly after the presentation concludes.\nBook Sales: Bring cash\, check\, or credit to purchase Private Gardens of Philadelphia and other books from the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group.\nRegistration is free\, but required to receive the presentation recording link.\nEmail us if you have accessibility needs for this program.\nFor more information\, review our program and event policies or call the Scott Arboretum office at 610-328-8025\n\nAbout the Presenter \nNicole Juday’s career has encompassed her own garden design business\, working as Landscape Curator at Wyck Historic Garden\, and running the renowned Arboretum School at the Barnes Foundation. She then served as Director of Audience Engagement at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. She has gone on to publish numerous articles\, winning a silver medal for her writing by the Garden Writers Association. She serves as board chair for the IDEAL Industries Foundation.
