SUMMARY:Tropical Container Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Andrew Bunting\, Vice President of Horticulture at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society\, for a hands-on workshop on growing tropical plants in outdoor containers. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just starting\, this session will provide you with all the essential tips and techniques to successfully cultivate vibrant tropical plants in your outdoor spaces. Andrew will review the best tropical plants for container gardening\, their care requirements\, and how to create a thriving environment for them. The lecture will be followed by a demonstration of proper planting techniques and an opportunity to plant a container with tropical plants to take home. Planting can be done during the workshop or materials can be taken home. Prior to arriving at PHS\, Andrew worked at the Chicago Botanic Garden\, Chanticleer Garden\, and Scott Arboretum & Gardens for a tenure of 27 years. He has received the American Public Gardens Association’s Professional Citation\, Chanticleer Scholarship in Professional Development\, and the Certificate of Merit from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. He also serves on the Board of Magnolia Society International. Andrew published his first book in 2015\, The Plant Lover’s Guide to Magnolias. \n  \nAbout ACCESS \nScott Arboretum & Gardens proudly participates in the Art-Reach ACCESS program. He is the author of the Storyteller Garden history blog. Stott has written for Gardens Illustrated and Hortus and is the co-editor of By Any Other Name\, the heritage rose journal of the World Federation of Rose Societies. \nAdam Glas\, Gardener Supervisor\, joined the Scott Arboretum & Gardens staff in 2012. Before that\, he worked as Nursery Manager at Terrain (at Styer’s) Nursery in Glen Mills. He was accepted into the Longwood Gardens Professional Gardener (PG) Training Program\, completing that program in 2006. He currently serves as president for the PG Alumni Association and vice president of the board of managers at Chenoa Manor. DESCRIPTION:Join us at a private residence in Wayne for a stroll through newly developed gardens inspired by Chanticleer. Soak up the sights and sounds of this young garden\, including a front-yard gravel planting\, iconic folly\, lush vegetable garden\, and a hillside garden with an ever-changing seasonal palette of rare and unusual plants. Native plants pair with these seasonal additions\, along with a focus on conservation practices to support the local ecosystem like leaving trees as snags and allowing the leaves to decompose on site. Mary is a certified Yoga for Healthy Aging teacher\, and the founder of Sanctuary Yoga\, a spiritual wellness ministry at Trinity Church\, Swarthmore.  Mary is also the Director of Adult Programs and Health & Wellness at the Park Avenue Community Center\, where she creates programming and offerings to serve and support the health and wellness needs of the Delaware County community.  When Mary first moved to Swarthmore\, her daily walks through the Arboretum with her family and dogs inspired her to volunteer at Scott Arboretum & Gardens\, where she recently served as President of Council to the Scott Associates.  Mary deeply appreciates the Scott Arboretum & Gardens as a place for all generations to share\, learn and experience year-round horticultural beauty.   \n\nAudrey Uchimoto\, AKA Sound Baths by Aud\, is a passionate sound healer based on the Main Line of Philadelphia. Certified in Sound Healing and Crystal Singing Bowls\, Audrey uses the therapeutic application of sound frequencies and vibrations to align individuals’ energetic fields and brain waves into a state of harmony and peace. \nAudrey entered the sound healing community in 2017 while living in Los Angeles. Since returning to her East Coast roots\, Audrey has been bringing the healing power of sound baths to local yoga and wellness studios and retreats\, as well as in her home studio. \nHer collection of sound healing instruments allows Audrey to create a mixture of harmonic and binaural tones that give her sound bath attendees a deeply profound\, one-of-a-kind experience accessing the inner layers of their subconscious through sound vibrations.
