I’m wondering about your advice to “cut it back in late winter to control growth.” How aggressively can I cut my Aristolochia macrophylla back? It’s about 8 years old and I have never cut it back before. I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

I have made a criss cross of wires for it it climb up bit I don’t know whether to snake the whole rope around the trellis or to have a thick rope going vertically and detach some stems to grow horizontally along the wires. Please advise. Thank you, Rachel Oakes, London Uk

It took some searching, but I finally recognized a picture, and the cute little whitish “pipes” that appear in the spring. I have many relatives as well who have offered different names, or wondered right along with me what they are. Since we have close neighbors these offer wonderful privacy and beauty from spring to late fall. I love them! Thank You. Sincerely, Elizabeth Ann Jackson, Michigan
