Harry Wood Courtyard

This garden was named in honor of Harry Wood, superintendent of grounds at Swarthmore College from 1927 to 1958. The rocks found throughout the garden were personally selected by Harry from the Pocono Mountains and transported to the Arboretum. Two large river birches give light shade to the courtyard planting, which features many shade-tolerant plants such as hellebores, toad lilies, and rhododendrons.
