In this lecture, Jenny Rose Carey will explore some of her favorite bulbs for each time of year. She will share tips for growing bulbs successfully in gardens and containers. She will feature mixed combinations in her Northview garden and from her garden travels.
Jenny Rose uses her own photos for the lecture and to illustrate her new book – The Essential Guide to Bulbs, published by Timber Press in October 2025.
Take home plenty of ideas for adding (more) bulbs to your own garden.
Join us before the event for an in-person tour of Scott Arboretum & Gardens highlighting the John W. Nason Garden. A reception with the opportunity to purchase The Essential Guide to Bulbs and book signing will follow the lecture.

About the Presenter
Jenny Rose Carey is an avid hands-on gardener and professional horticulturist. Born in England to a family of botanists and gardeners, she grew up in the countryside and designed her first herb garden at age sixteen. She moved with her American husband to the Philadelphia area and has gardened there ever since. Her degrees are in Biology, Horticulture, and Education, so Jenny Rose brings a strong teaching background to her writing and her presentations.
Professionally, Jenny has been Director of two public gardens: The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Garden at Meadowbrook Farm. She is now devoting her time to writing, speaking, and tending her four-and-a-half-acre garden called Northview.
Jenny has authored three gardening books: Glorious Shade; The Ultimate Flower Gardener’s Guide; and The Essential Guide to Bulbs: Grow a Bounty of Beautiful Bulbs in Gardens and Containers. The Essential Guide to Bulbs will be available to the public in mid-October 2025 and will be available for purchase at the lecture.
