Blooms of the Season: Plant Sale Edition III

This Blooms of the Season features three Plant Sale plants and the violet flowers of Clematis  ‘Venosa Voilacea’. A true heirloom plant, ‘Venosa Voilacea’ was introduced in 1883. This beauty begins flowering mid-summer and produces varying violet and white patterned flowers until early autumn. This clematis blooms on new growth, so prune it in late winter.

Light green new growth shoots of Thuja ‘Green Giant’ accent the violet blooms in this scan. ‘Green Giant‘ is a very fast growing pyramidal evergreen tree with no serious pest or disease problems. It was awarded the PHS Gold Medal Award in 1998. These attributes make it an ideal screening plant in your garden.

The third plant highlighted in this scan is Osmanthus heterophyllus ‘Sasaba’. The deeply-cut, spiny-margined, lustrous leaves add texture to this image and your garden.  Also known as the false holly, ‘Sasaba’ makes a good hedge or screen when planted en masse.
