National Public Gardens Day

It is official!! Philadelphia Mayor Nutter proclaimed May 8 as National Public Gardens Day in the City of Philadelphia. Celebrate with rhododendrons, azaleas, tree peonies, lilacs, and Halesia at the Scott Arboretum.

National Public Gardens Day is a national day of celebration to raise awareness about America’s public gardens and their important role in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation, and education in communities nationwide. National Public Gardens Day takes place annually on Mother’s Day weekend, an unofficial start of spring and a time when the environment is top-of-mind for most consumers. The event is sponsored by American Public Gardens Association and Rainbird company.

Public gardens are fun activities for families, couples, and enthusiasts, providing a low-cost, entertainment, and a beautiful community outing while providing important resources, education and research on environmental stewardship and conservation.

The Scott Arboretum is offering a free tour on Saturday, May 9 titled “The Arboretum in Bloom” for those who will be carrying the celebration into the weekend.
